HVAC New Year Resolutions

Once again the holidays have come and gone in their usual burst of color, gifts, and celebrations. The family has gone back home and life is returning to normal. Now is the time to pick and begin practicing your 2019 New Year’s resolutions. How about starting a few HVAC New Year resolutions? Make a commitment to your HVAC system that you will do everything you need to keep it running smoothly for as long as possible. Here are a few tips to keep that resolution alive and well throughout the year:

Resolve to check your air filters regularly:

Your air filters may seem like such a small component when compared to the rest of your HVAC system, but they help more than you realize. If your air vents become so clogged that air cannot flow freely, your entire system can shut down. This is why we remind you each month to check your air filters and to change them out when they get dirty.  Doing this simple task each month will ensure that you are doing what you can to keep your system running smoothly.

Promise to protect your outdoor unit:

Regularly cleaning the area around your outdoor unit and making sure that there is no debris clogging any part of it will help to keep the unit running smoothly.  The outdoor unit is responsible for blowing the hot air it collects from your home to the outdoors in the summer so that you can feel cool and comfortable during the warm months. However, that becomes more difficult when there are things blocking the unit. Not removing leaves, dirt, and other debris from the unit could cause it to get clogged and break down, leaving you with costly repairs.

And finally, commit to signing a maintenance agreement:

There is plenty for you to do on your own to ensure the long life of your HVAC system, however, it is always better to have a professional make sure everything is fine at least twice per year. With a maintenance agreement, your system will undergo a meticulous inspection of not only your filter and outdoor unit, but also the system’s mechanical parts, electrical wiring, and will receive a thorough cleaning. The biggest advantage to signing a maintenance agreement is that it will exponentially extend the life of your HVAC unit, saving you money in the long run.
