HVAC New Year’s Resolutions

It’s the beginning of a new decade, and you’ve probably made a few New Year’s resolutions regarding things like health and work. Why not make some resolutions when it comes to maintaining your HVAC unit as well? Make this the year that you save money, breathe easier and live more comfortably in your home!

Change Your Air Filter Monthly

We mention this a lot, but we do it because it’s extremely important. Taking a few minutes to change your air filter each month will improve air quality, improve your unit’s overall efficiency and reduce the chances of it needing a costly repair. Your filter gets caked with dust, pet hair and other debris throughout the month, then your family breathes the air that flows through it. If your filter is clogged, it’ll also cause your HVAC unit to work harder than it needs to just to do its job. It’s best to just take the time to replace it each month — it really does make a big difference.

Schedule Preventative Maintenance

Preventative maintenance helps lower your energy bills by up to 30-40 percent annually! One of our professionals will thoroughly inspect your unit twice a year for potential problems, and we’ll also clean your system while we’re there. Benefits of annual maintenance include healthier indoor air quality, fewer repairs, longer equipment life, improved system efficiency and greater family safety due to routine carbon monoxide checks. We highly recommend scheduling maintenance appointments in the spring and fall months this year!

Use a Smart Thermostat

If you don’t have a Nest Learning Thermostat, we recommend making it a priority to get one this year. The Nest thermostat saves people an average of 10-12% on heating bills and 15% on cooling bills each year! Basically, you use less energy and spend less money to be more comfortable than ever before. Programmable thermostats build a temperature schedule around yours, so you’re never too hot or too cold at any given time. That’s right, you don’t even have to turn the thermostat down a degree or two before bed if that’s your norm, it does it for you. Talk about convenience!
