Is There Carbon Monoxide In Your Home?

Carbon Monoxide & Your Home

Using appliances inappropriately in your home can allow carbon monoxide to leak into your air, leaving you breathing in toxic gas. Since you can’t actually smell it, you could be breathing toxins without knowing it.

It is produced when:

  • Appliances are not properly installed, maintained or used.
  • Vent pipes become plugged with debris.
  • Vent pipes have gaps, leaks, spaces or are rusted.
  • Too many appliances are vented to one vent pipe.

Carbon Monoxide & Your Health

When your indoor air is polluted with carbon monoxide, you breathe in more than you do oxygen, leading to poisoning. Some symptoms of poisoning include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Confusion
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Shortness of Breath

Keeping Your Family Healthy

How to detect carbon monoxide:

We perform carbon monoxide screenings in order to keep your air free from that lethal toxins. We have a few safety tips for you:

  • If you use a gas space heater that isn’t vented, leave a nearby window open at least an inch to allow fresh air to enter the room.
  • Have your gas central heating unit checked by a professional contractor before the heating season begins to ensure the heat exchanger is not cracked or rusted, and that the burner area is clean.
  • Have your heating and air specialist install a low-level Carbon Monoxide Detector in your home.

You can also sign up for our maintenance agreement, which offers two annual service checkups that you can schedule prior to turning on your heating system.
