Dirty air filters don’t allow air to freely circulate throughout the house, often preventing your unit from adequately cooling the area, or using up more energy than necessary. Be sure to replace your air filter once a month.

Leaking Refrigerant or Broken Compressor

When your unit is running low on refrigerant, your air conditioner cannot properly cool the air. Some signs you have a refrigerant leak include energy bills that spike up, a hissing noise, warm air blowing through your vents and ice buildup on your outdoor unit’s line. Refrigerant can be dangerous to handle, so it’s important that any repairs are performed by a certified HVAC specialist. If your compressor is damaged, refrigerant cannot be properly circulated, and your air conditioner will not properly cool your home.
